the unit 1 of bangladesh’s first ultra-supercritical thermal power station - payra 2x660 mw thermal power plant, invested by china national machinery import & export corp, obtained the commercial operation approval certificate on may 23, and began to supply power to bangladesh’s national grid.
the payra coal-fired power station is the first thermal power station invested and constructed by a chinese company in bangladesh through the public-private partnership, or ppp, mode, and it is also the largest power station in bangladesh to date. the total investment for this project is about $2.48 billion. in addition to applying advanced, efficient, and clean ultra-supercritical technologies, the facility also adopts chinese capital, standards, equipment, technologies and management system.
after the two units of the project enter commercial operation, they can provide bangladesh with a stable and reliable power supply of 8.58 billion kwh per year, which is expected to account for about 10 percent of bangladesh’s total power generation capacity. this will boost bangladesh’s power generation capacity and the upgrade its structure of electricity energy.
