the phase-1 project of a genertec-invested power plant in bangladesh was inaugurated on march 21, which marks that the country has moved to a new era by attaining 100 percent electricity coverage, the first one in south asia to do so.

the payra 1320 mw ultra-supercritical coal-fired power plant, co-invested by genertec cmc and bangladesh's north-west power generation company limited, is the largest power plant in bangladesh and the first public-private partnership power project ever invested and operated by a chinese enterprise in bangladesh.

the power plant adopts ultra supercritical technology, and its major emissions are lower than what's required in world bank, international finance corporation and bangladeshi standards.

the operation of the power plant also marks that bangladesh has become the 13th country in the world using ultra supercritical technology.

upon full operation, the power plant is expected to generate 8.58 billion kwh of clean electricity for bangladesh on an annual basis, which will significantly relieve the tension in local power supply and effectively improve the country's energy structure.

during the construction and operation of the project, genertec has provided around 7,000 jobs for local community and proactively fulfilled its social responsibilities. it joined local community governance, built a technical college, donated anti-pandemic materials, offered technical training, and contributed parts of its revenue to social development funds of bangladesh.
